News Release October 8, 2010 Reference: Tessa Lopez, public information officer, BAYAN-Bikol   Bicol militants give P-Noy a “golden egg” rating on his first 100 days   The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Bikol led protest actions all over the region on the first 100 days of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. In a picket in front of Camp Simeon Ola, the militants presented the “ginintuang itlog” or “golden egg” and denounced the Aquino administration for the continuation of Oplan Bantay Laya which has 213 victims of extra-judicial killings (EJK) and 5 enforced disappearances from 709 incidences of human rights violations. Over all this victimized 77, 816 people in the Bicol region alone, which has the most number of victims of EJK in the country. According to Tessa Lopez, public information officer of BAYAN-Bikol, “We think that the “golden egg” is the most apt analogy and grade of P-Noy on his first 100 days particularly in the Bicol region. As it is many people still think that he shows some potential but as of now he has done nothing concrete for the betterment of the region. Instead he just continued the policies of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Oplan Bantay Laya and the push to privatize the power industry,” “These in turn bring more suffering to us Bicolanos in the form of human rights violations, power rate hikes and perennial power outages. Landlessness and militarization is also still prevalent. In short the golden egg stands for his promises which up till now are zero and are yet to materialize,” added the militant leader. “In fact we are still the 2nd poorest region in the country as well as the “tambay” capital of the Philippines, so unless the above problems are properly addressed then it is evident that P-Noy is no different from the past presidents,” ended Lopez. # # #
