Justice for Gregan Cardeno Movement Press Statement
Zamboanga City- The family, relatives and friends of Gregan V. Cardeño are saddened and shocked on his unexpected death. This came two days after Gregan happily started his work as interpreter of the US soldiers, under BALIKATAN of the Joint Special Operation Task Force – Philippines, stationed at 103rd Brigade PA, at Camp Ranao, Marawi City, headed by its Team Leader US/ Capt. Mike Kaye.
Gregan’s nature of death as ini tially reported is beyond logical acceptance, for the following antecedent facts: (1) That, on January 30, 2010, he (Gregan) signed his Contract of Employment with SkyLink Security Agency, with address at Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City, with contract relation to the Dyn Corporation, based in the United States of America, to supply manpower services to the US Soldiers, under BALIKATAN. (2) That, only on February 1, 2010, he started his actual contract of employment, and; (3)That, on mid-night of February 02, 2010, he was declared dead, due to suicide.
The Family, relatives and, friends of Gregan is not convince that for any reason Gregan will commit suicide, leaving his three (3) little children and caring wife, and for one, Gregan is expecting to earn out of his being an interpreter more than enough supposedly to start after his three-month contract, a new and decent living. JUST FOR THREE MONTHS, THE PERIOD OF HIS EMPLOYMENT WITH THE AMERICAN SOLDIERS AS INTERPRETER --- Shall he commit SUICIDE?
We, the family, relatives and friends, constituted a movement called “JUSTICE FOR GREGAN V. CARDENO MOVEMENT (JGCM)”, to seek and initiate investigation with the hope of getting into the bottom of the issue. JGCM is appealing to all government institutions to prosecute the case with dispatch.
Come March 2-4, 2010, the JGCM in cooperation with human rights organizations, particularly with KAWAGIB, KARAPATAN and church institutions is launching a National Fact-Finding Mission, to obtain further information on his death. JGCM has also communicated B/ Gen. Rey Aldo, the commanding Brigadier General of 103rd Brigade who host the station of the US troops, and Mike Kaye, to allow the Fact-Finding Mission for an interview with the three (3) US Soldiers who was allegedly in company with Gregan before his death and, to have an ocular visit of the scene of the crime, the Philippine Congress Committee on Human Rights, Philippine Senate Committee on Human Rights and, the Legislative Oversight Committee of the Visiting Forces Agreement, was also notified of the said JGCM National Fact-Finding Mission.
